CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Gentle yoga – for new or continuing students who, due to stiffness, lack of strength, or other limitations, would benefit from a more slow paced, less rigorous class.
Level I - introduces beginning students and students new to the Iyengar approach to the fundamentals of posture and breath.
Level I-II – for both new students and those who have completed Level I. Also ideal for those with previous yoga experience who are new to the Iyengar approach.
Level II - for students who have completed the introductory course. The basic poses are refined with an emphasis on all the standing poses. Inverted poses (headstand, plow, and shoulderstand) are introduced.
Level II-III – for students with previous Iyengar training who are strong in standing poses and can do headstand, shoulderstand and plow with confidence. Please consult with the instructor before enrolling.
Pranayama Level I – affords those people who are seriously interested in working with the breath an opportunity to move beyond the elementary levels that have been incorporated into the regular asana classes. Prerequisite: a minimum of one year of study and practice of asana in the Iyengar method.
Pranayama Level II and III - for students who have completed the preceding levels.
Classes at Blue Ridge Yoga are an invigorating practice of asana (postures), emphasizing strength, flexibility, awareness, and deep relaxation with appropriate adjustments for all levels of fitness and experience. Classes are taught in the tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar, world-renowned hatha yoga teacher and author of several books including the classic text Light on Yoga.
